Casey Overweel is our onboard naturalist. With a B.Sc from the University of Victoria and years of experience in the travel and tourism industry, Casey has done more than 1000 trips on the WildCat, equivalent to traveling 2 1/2 times around the world.
Casey, a born and bred
Victorian (and proud of it!) considers the
waters around Victoria to be his "backyard."
He enjoys pointing out that one can
experience Afternoon Tea in the ambience of
a grand hotel — The Empress — get on board
the WildCat and in 30 to 40 minutes see
seven or eight different marine mammals in
their natural environment (stressing the
word "natural.") There is no other city in
the world like it.
Casey, easily heard over the vessel's PA system, provides a commentary on the marine life and ecosystems, surrounding Vancouver Island and the Strait of Juan De Fuca. In addition, he enlightens you with some of the colorful stories from the local islands. The rum runners of Tnal Island, the story of Lime Kilne Point, Cattle Point and the now-abandoned leper colony, are just a few of the stories told.
